Thank you Wakeling Family!

Every year, the Wakeling family (my moms side) gathers all our spare change collected throughout the year and brings them to the familty Christmas. We then role them and give the money to charity. One year we bought a family in africa chickens through world vision. This year was no different. So far we have rolled $38 in spare change!!! As you can see on my scrolling list! More to come too! So this puts me at 15% of my goal. I have a few fundraisers plan so I know that I'll get there.

Thanks Auntie Karen and mom for rolling all those coins!!!

Did I mention I broke my butt?

The day I broke my butt is a day I will never forget. It happened on the second last day of a vacation in Paris. I slipped on some marble steps and fell so hard on my tail bone that I saw stars, no joke. It took me about 10 minutes to get up because I was in AGONY. This Feb will mark 2 years from that occasion. Not sure if anyone has has this injury, but hurting your tailbone, not fun. To this day I can't sit for more than an hour in a meeting and flights are very difficult. I fly almost every week, so this sucks. So today, I ventured out for my renewed commitment to spinning. I went to a friend shop called FreeWheel Cycle. They are the best bike shop I've ever been to and they are right close by in Dundas. http://www.freewheelcycle.com/ The class was GREAT! Thanks to Vinces awesome tunes I was able to forget the pain and spin. Soooo, training for this ride will be my first "real" cycling since my fall... I can make it... but will my butt???

No amount is too small... well, not really.

So, I'd like to think that no amount is too little. Give what you feel like attitude. But here is the cold hard truth. 10 bucks is the minimum. Yep, when I tried to donate $5 to myself I was rejected. I really just wanted to see my name on the scroll thing. You can write anything you want there you know!

My first fundraiser!

Mom and Doug are hosting a Hunter Safety and Gun Safety Course through Dougs Business, Village Archery.
At the event they are providing a lunch and asking for donations for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Holy Crap its cold outside

Honestly, I had every intention today to take out my mountain bike and go for a spin aroung the track behind the school. I've got good tires on my mountain bike so the snow wouldn't have been to much of an issue...BUT DO YOU KNOW HOW COLD AND WINDY it was today?Instead, Seamus and I went for nice walk with the dog. !@#$%&* its cold out!-10C with 37kph according to my BlackBerry Curve :(I'm thinking warm thoughts and taking my road bike in for a tune up this week!

About this blog

When I heard the advertisement on CHUM FM talking about this ride I immediately thought about my very dear friend Jason that passed away from leukemia 7 years ago. He's always been in my thoughts over the years. Sounds cheesy but I almost feel like he asked me to do this. This won't be easy, but neither is cancer. And if this is what I can do to help that cause, then here I am.
I would love for people to joining me as my teammates. I realize that it takes time, and a reliable bike. So, if you don't have these to get you involved, let me be your vessel! I'll do the hard part and ride 200km for Jason. If anyone has been touched by cancer and feels this same need to give, any amount, please sponsor me!
My mom always told me, if you look after the pennies, the nickels and dimes will look after themselves.
When I made the call to join this ride Trista was my counsellor. She asked me if I was to be listed as a cancer survivor. I am fortunate enough to have said no. I hope this will always be the case. Then she asked where I would like my donations to go. I chose the Discovery Fund. This fund is a pool of money available when needed to fund breakthroughs for ANY cancer, to researchers who need it. Maybe this will save my life or the life of someone I love. That is my hope for this ride.
This is the first time I've ever done anything like this so wish me luck! Thank you so much for your support, even if its just in words of encouragement! ride on!
