When I heard the advertisement on CHUM FM talking about this ride I immediately thought about my very dear friend Jason that passed away from leukemia 7 years ago. He's always been in my thoughts over the years. Sounds cheesy but I almost feel like he asked me to do this. This won't be easy, but neither is cancer. And if this is what I can do to help that cause, then here I am.
I would love for people to joining me as my teammates. I realize that it takes time, and a reliable bike. So, if you don't have these to get you involved, let me be your vessel! I'll do the hard part and ride 200km for Jason. If anyone has been touched by cancer and feels this same need to give, any amount, please sponsor me!
My mom always told me, if you look after the pennies, the nickels and dimes will look after themselves.
When I made the call to join this ride Trista was my counsellor. She asked me if I was to be listed as a cancer survivor. I am fortunate enough to have said no. I hope this will always be the case. Then she asked where I would like my donations to go. I chose the Discovery Fund. This fund is a pool of money available when needed to fund breakthroughs for ANY cancer, to researchers who need it. Maybe this will save my life or the life of someone I love. That is my hope for this ride.
This is the first time I've ever done anything like this so wish me luck! Thank you so much for your support, even if its just in words of encouragement! ride on!
